In case you are interested, here is what I was told:

1. Once AADSAS receives your DAT scores, they will indicate the "date taken" and "date received" under official DAT scores section. However, DAT scores will NOT be posted, so all you can see are the two dates.

2. DAT scores will show up in the application, and every school that you apply for will receive the same application. However, it is up to each individual school to either accept it as official scores or not. In case it doesn't, you still need to send the official scores from ADA to them. (so the best way is probably contact schools after they receive your application).

3. The estimate for the first batch of applications to be mailed out is the first week of July. (While it is a very good estimation to me, I won't be surprised if they mail out the first batch earlier. As for my DAT scores, although AADSAS says it will be posted as early as June 23, mine and few others showed up on June 15. )

I hope the above information help solve some confusions.
Feel free to add new different information later on!

An update for the DAT scores thing:
I just gave another to AADSAS and got the following information:
For people who took the DAT between 2007-Feb 10, 2010, ADA will automatically forward scores to AADSAS, so you are all set.

For those who took the DAT after Feb 10, 2010, you need to pay ADA additionally in order for AADSAS to receive the scores. HOWEVER, my DAT was taken on Mar. 1, 2010, and AADSAS did receive my scores from ADA already. In this case, the representative told me that as long as AADSAS received my scores, my scores will be included in ALL of my designated schools that I applied for with AADSAS. It is up to the schools to decide whether they accept DAT scores in AADSAS application official or not. In case they don't, you will need to pay ADA to send the official scores to them. (some schools replied me with sth like I need to release my scores to them so they can see?!)

In any case, my impression is as long as AADSAS is able to import your scores from ADA, as evidenced by the "date taken" and "date received" information under "official DAT scores", the scores will be included in the AADSAS application. Hope it helps.

Last year the application opened on June 2nd I think and the first time your application was made electronically available to schools was June 29th and the first mailing was July 2nd or 3rd. I would say this will be extremely similar to this year.

were your official scores on AADSAS any different than the unofficial report? how often are the scores different?

I won't be able to know, as AADSAS won't post the scores. You have to buy an official one from ADA if you really want to find out. I figure it will be the same, so I decide to save little money and not ordering the report myself.

Very dumb idea. Why dont they post scores so we can check and make sure there is no mistake? Not knowing what my "official scores" are on my app is not the best feeling.....especially when aadsas has a reputation of losing and delayin stuff.

The dumbest idea they did this year was doing the DENTPIN idea; yeah sure it saves a crap load of money, but the stress of figuring out whether schools accept the scores as official or not is pretty annoying.

I'm just gonna send all 12 schools I'm applying a DAT official score report and say 'to hell with it'

So, are you going to the ADA website and paying $25 per school (that you may not have designated when originally taking the DAT)? That's what I'm planning on doing just to make sure the schools get my scores.

This seems like the best thing to do.

I just called ADA and AADSAS..

They both said you still have to pay 25 per school for the schools to receive your score. AADSAS will not automatically send the schools your score.

I don't get it. It is way too confusing.

So i called AADSAS again and told another person what DATLONGSHUI said... and she said that is correct.

-_-;

anyone can shine more light into this, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Damnnnnn are you for real!?!? I thought this was automatic with DENTPIN. Do you have any idea how I can pay them? Ive been trying but their website only lists schools.

Well how do we know if our schools accept the AADSAS DAT scores or not??

They could mean the actual OFFICIAL report. To me, it seems that they don't consider these DENTPIN-linked scores to be official, but a lot of schools do. Honestly, I feel like the ADA is scamming us, because I've noticed how unprofessional they are.

So here is whats going on... First you call the schools that you are applying to, then ask them would they like an official DAT score report or is it good enough if its sent by AADSAS(if they ask what do you mean explain the change). Because of so many people calling them most schools are aware of the changes. So if the schools still require official send it though ADA. Make a list in excel.

The way I see it is, if you call at least 5 schools and 3 of them say AADSAS is good enough you save 75$ for literally 15 mins of your time. WORTH IT :meanie:

Well, like I mentioned in my post, I took my DAT on Mar. 1, 2010, and yet AADSAS still got my scores. So my impression is if you ask AADSAS about the general rules for DAT importing, it is useless because it may be contradictory to what you get. That's why in the end, I just asked AADSAS what about MY SCORES, and I was told it was already imported.

I would suggest you to call AADSAS once you saw the dates information appeared in your application and make sure they do receive your scores.

Ok. let me try to be clearer. sorry because this whole ada/aadsas thing is just plain weird.

ADA said in order for your scores to be released, and they said they WILL NOT release it to any schools you did not designate on their website due to legal concerns, those schools will NOT see your scores. They also said I am 100% sure and AADSAS score is entire differently.

Honestly, I think based on the fact that we do not see our score on the AADSAS application itself, it might mean that the score would not show up. The schools are confusing themselves and think that they will get the scores from AADSAS but since this year is new, i don't think they know that as a fact yet.

I think the confusion is on your part. Just b/c you dont see something there that does not mean it wont go to the schools. AAdsas will not have DIFFRENT score than ADA lol then whats the point of them sending 2 different scores doesnt make sense. The scores will be sent from aadsas to all the schools and its up to the schools if they want to see the official score report. Call them up and if they want official one from ada then pay to send.

i guess i am confused. but just want to reiterate what ADA told me and that is there is no way a school that is not designated on your list on the ADA website will see your score, because you did not legally release that information.

i guess i will be calling them again tomorrow but i did call them twice and got the same exact answer.

Okay, I just found this directly from ADA.org, If I am reading this correctly, you DO NOT NEED TO PAY THE $25 FOR EACH SCHOOL as ADDSAS will directly pull your scores for you.

Effective as of July 1st, does this mean people who've taken DAT before July 1st would need to pay and have score reported?

what the heck is wrong with ADA, that just made things even more confusing. i dont think we'll have to worry about this information as we've already taken the dat. leave it to the next generation of predents to figure it out haha

i feel like ADA was trying to improve efficiency with the whole dentpin electronic thing, and the plan backfired because the schools no longer needed those 25 dollar reports to be sent to them...as a result tADA is trying to salvage some of that money with these new changes

uclabruinz brings up a good point. he could be completely right, and if so, alot of us are gonna have to pay up alot of unnessecary money

I hope you know that nothing back fired from ADA. Dentpin is like another Id that we are going to have throughout our dental life very efficient to keep track of everything. But what you fail to realize is that if ADA can choose not to let aadsas have access to our DAT scores. and it has nothing to do with dentpin.

I just called ADA about this whole mess 5 minutes ago...

YOU HAVE TO STILL PAY THE $25 FOR EACH SCHOOL THAT YOUR APPLYING TO OR ADDSAS WILL NOT SEND YOUR SCORES OUT (to the schools selected)

They are just doing this to make sure they get the $25, this is really sad 🙁 I am applying to 18 schools

see i called AADSAS and they tell me the opposite! they said birthday and dentpin and you're set for DAT scores 😕

why are they on totally different wavelengths? the ADA people were rude to me when i called about it so i didnt get much info from them

Are we expecting some kind of official announcement from either AADSAS or ADA about this confusion😕?

I got this email from the ADEA .

All:

With the launch of the 2011 ADEA AADSAS application, we are receiving inquiries from both applicants and advisors about the importing of official DAT scores into the AADSAS application. This is the first year that official DAT scores are being imported directly into ADEA AADSAS and questions have been raised about how this works. ADEA AADSAS and the American Dental Association Department of Testing Services are addressing these inquiries now.

ADEA AADSAS does not anticipate any delays in processing ADEA AADSAS applications with imported DAT scores. ADEA AADSAS will start sending applications to dental schools in late June.

Here are several points we can clarify now:

·. .When registering for the DAT, students and others are getting the impression that they should request their scores to be sent to ADEA AADSAS. This is not the case. Students should select the schools that are to receive their scores. The ADA will transmit scores to the appropriate recipient, i.e., ADEA AADSAS if the school participates, TMDSAS for Texas residents applying to Texas schools, or to individual schools if the school does not participate in a centralized application service.

·. .ADEA AADSAS matches each applicant's DENTPIN to DAT score reports and imports applicants' scores into the ADEA AADSAS application. ADEA AADSAS will then distribute the official DAT scores to all schools designated in the ADEA AADSAS application.

·. .DAT registrants should not request that a DAT score report be sent to ADEA AADSAS by indicating AADSAS as an "other" recipient. (Students should use "other" only to request score reports for themselves or other organizations/institutions--those scores are transmitted in paper reports.)

·. .Applicants are asking when they will know that their DAT scores have been received by ADEA AADSAS. Applicants can review the Status section of their applications to see the date that DAT scores have been downloaded into their ADEA AADSAS applications. DAT scores are imported into ADEA AADSAS on a weekly basis. The first import of DAT scores will occur before the first distribution of applications to schools in late June.

We apologize for any conflicting messaging that you may have received from ADEA AADSAS and the ADA Department of Testing Services. We will keep you informed if additional questions arise.

So long story short:

No need to pay extra to send paper copies unless requested by schools. The DAT score imported to AADSAS is official and will be forwarded to each school you picked.🙄

This is good news, they should post this on their website front page to clear up all the confusion. can you reply to them and ask them to post this on ADEA? hehe
thanks for sharing

just saved me $$$😎

called ADA again. same thing, still have to pay, rude like always.

called AADSAS again. nicer people, same thing, do not have to designate on ADA to be sent out to schools.

👎

Those ADA agents are the RUDEST people. I am so sick and tired of calling them, I just went a head and paid $450 for the 18 schools I applyed to... whatever I just don't care anymore, I hate calling ADA

mk...well I called AADSAS just because I wasn't 100% certain on whether to pay additional schools or not and here is what they said..

According to them, it is different for each school. If the school indicated that it needs official DAT scores sent to them, you must pay the additional $25 for that school. If it does not indicate this, it will use the score provided by the AADSAS. This can be found on the AADSAS application under complete supplemental information in the dental school designation. I hope this clears this mess up for you guys, I think it did for me!

its definitely efficient, but financially it's a backfire if, according to the general consensus right now, we no longer have to pay the 25 dollars per school report and AADSAS will instead electronically upload the score for all schools to see

I dont know about ADA finances. But i think they increased our app's prices so high and the dat registration fees higher too. So i do not believe there is a huge loss. But I think ethically its the right thing to do.

I am still not sending my scores though ADA. B/c I called all the schools that i am applying to and only 2 of them said they need an official. Most schools are so nice they explained to me how they will get there scores etc...

I called ADA twice but I couldnt tell if they were rude or trying to rush me off the phone... but ohh well... Anyways in 2 weeks the apps will be mailed out thats what aadsas emails says so if the schools i called didnt receive my dat I will immediately pay to be accessible to them.

To my understanding that some schools have notified me that they can pull up my score from their special DAT ADA website immediately after i pay the 25. I called schools last year thats what they have told me.

This is a good idea and this is what I'm doing too.

Just think about it, AADSAS is sending out paper copies to the schools. I seriously doubt they have the manpower to individualize the paper applications for everyone, finding out which school you paid the ADA to release the scores to, and which schools you didn't. They'll probably just send the exact same application to all the schools you've designated. (Just like how we can't individualize our LOEs, they send all the same ones to all the schools).

Adding to the confusion here:
I just called a nice lady at the ADA about this whole mess, and this is what she told me.

First, you still have to mark schools & send the reports. The ADA will forward scores to AADSAS, but AADSAS is not authorized to release/send schools your scores unless you have gone through the ADA and indicated which schools you want your scores sent to, thereby giving permission. So if you listed 5 schools on your DAT, but you're applying to 10 schools via AADSAS, only the 5 schools you marked will get your DAT scores. You have to go back and mark the other 5 schools. That is what I was told.

If you register before July 1st, you have the $225 or whatever fee, 5 free schools, and $25 for each additional school. After July 1st, the registration fee for the DAT goes up to $285, but you can mark as many schools as you want without paying additional fees. So I guess if you're applying to a lot of schools, it would be best to wait to register until July 1st if you haven't already.

I believe if you're sending reports AFTER you've already taken the exam, it's $25 for each school (even if you didn't use up your 5 free ones when you registered). Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong.

I mentioned to her that I had called schools and they said they didn't need a separate report & that just the AADSAS is fine. And I didn't completely understand, but it sounds like the ADA sends a file, but many of them just choose not to look at that and instead just go by AADSAS. But she said that, regardless, you still have to mark/authorize all the schools.

im beginning to see the pattern

it seems the real discrepancy is between ADA and AADSAS, but each is consistent in their answers

ada wants us to pay 25 for each school, but aadsas says we should contact the schools individually for the extra reports

um... this is technology era. you do not need man power. the application will print and all they probably do is put it in an envelope or send them electronically. If what people say about AADSAS holding back your scores is true. then it can easily be done.

This is a little unrelated... but I just got conformation that my application is complete and will be shipped out in 2 weeks time. My overall was 3.3, science 3.61, BCP 3.88

Good luck to you all this cycle

Then that basically shows me how greedy they are, if they have that resource, to do this and not even let us individualize our LOEs.

My mailing date was just posted!!! :-D Glad all of my stuff is in and I know my application will be sent out in the first batch. July 2nd!!

where do u go to check the mailing date?

thanks

I saw mine is going to be "7/2/2010". The information is under "Dental School Designations"-those links on the right side of your application web page.

Good luck!

Mine too! Took almost two weeks after they were sent. But I did priority mail, not overnight.
