If someone is rejected from sgu during the august cycle due to low mcat (23) high GPA (3.8), would they have a better chance of applying again for the January cycle? I am debating whether or not to apply for aug 2015 or jan 2016.

Not likely, unless you've done things to improve your application. If they will accept you into the January class, they will tell you so when they contact you after your interview for the August class. They will often accept students into the following January term if the August term is full or nearly full.

This is just my opinion from my experience with SGU. The January term tends to receive less applications than the August term. If you think of a "traditional" pre-med student (e.g., getting ready to graduate from college or earn a Bachelor's degree), they most likely cannot start in January. Only an anecdote: I know of students that weren't accepted for August but were accepted for January. Granted, a few of them had to enroll in the Academic Enrichment Program (AEP), which actually isn't a bad deal.

Is there more to this story? I'm actually surprised with those stats that you received a flat-out rejection and not an offer for AEP or something similar. Your GPA is pretty darn good. Did you get an interview?

From the OP, it sounds like a hypothetical situation, since s/he mentions not applying until 2015/2016.
