After being Ortho-All-The-Way throughout the first 2.75 years of med school, I've fallen in love with Plastic Surgery and realize that this is definitely the career track I want to pursue. Problem is, application season is just around the corner and I have NO idea what my strategy should be at this point.

I have a surgical sub-I coming up and I'm taking Step II early (and very seriously) to try and kick my reasonably competitive application (by Gen-Surg standards) up to something that will at least help get my foot in the door. My CV leans heavily toward the service side of EC's (international medical mission trips, health fairs, etc.) but I have zero research. Would I be better off trying to quickly get involved with something now, or focusing on Step II and my sub-I's? How important is research for Plastics?

Also, if anyone has any info on the Tampa plastics program, I'd love to hear it. I'm thinking of doing an away there since I would love to stay in FL.

Thanks!
