Hey guys, i need some help. i just finish taking my DAT for the second time. needless to say it blows once more, it was a big improvment from my first one where my sciend was 16 15 and 14. with 18 on PAT. This time around studied pretty hard on BIO and chem and manage to get 20 and 19 however my OCHM crashed and burn with a 15. over all AA i had 18 and 19 on PAT.

i am applying this year and i already send in my application however they are still not send out to AADSAS so i was woundering if i should take it again in november? or better luck next cycle?

Thanx alot. And for others, BIO from Kaplan blue book is not even close to being enough.

ps. strangest thing when i took a mock test on kaplan's cd last night i got a 23 on ochm.

🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

I think 14 to 15 is a big improvement 🙂
I think the deadline is coming soon, so if u take DAT on november, it will go to next cycle anyway. I think it's better to take the exam next year instead of november since both of them r the same cycle.

you have to realize that the DAT exam does assume that you have had the basic science courses in college.

maybe you just went to a bad college.

what happened in organic chem?? and what kind of biology question did you see??

you made a big improvement and an 18AA is better than a 17 or 16. you still have a big chance of getting accepted with a 3.3 or above gpa this cycle.

...as opposed to a bad graduate school?

Hey firenoodle.

Yikes. You're making me shiver as I'm going to re-take my DAT sometime this year.

However, I just wanted you to know that ADA will only allow applicants to take the DAT three times. That's going to be the max starting in 2007.

But good luck with you application process.

i think i am going to re take it again in nov. prob wont be good for this application cycle, but who knows, maybe next year.

i dont quite understand this 3 max thing. what happen if someone just want to keep on trying? they are just gonna tell us good luck and good bye?? it doesnt make sense to me.

on the test, for the math section there were about 4 o 5 trig problem involving sin cos and tan, other things are pretty standard. o chem has endless reaction prob about 10 o 15 of them, so if get those down your in good shape. biology was pretty crazy since alot of the stuff isnt covered on the Kaplan blue book. as for chem. i dont know how i got a 19 cuase i pretty much just memorize the equation and did 5 test for it. thats about it. everything else was alirght. 2nd time around the PAT is much easier. wat i dont understand is i got a 19 this time and i am 92% and on the first try i got a 20 and it was 87%. dont know why, but yeah.. any one has any suggestion?

Did you feel the questions on organic were tougher? Did you think you did better on organic than you actually did? Did you feel like the reactions were trickier than your practice materials? Most people felt that Kaplan was more than enough for both of the chem sections. Did you use Topscore and DAT Achiever? Your percentiles are based on the questions you get and how other people do on those questions, so you could have a higher score, but a lower percentage simply b/c the questions were different. Unfortunately, or fortunately, schools don't see the percentiles.

thanks alot, actually i felt the test was pretty easy, i know i have studied them all, or seen them somewhere before, i just didnt have time for memorizing. i did use topsore, but it was an older version from 2000 which i did pretty well on. but yeah, i guess i should send out my score and let god decide what he wants me to become.

anyone know any other supplement stuff i could use to study for BIO section?
and is the CHM and OCHM on the kaplan blue book more than enough for the DAT?

thanx alot, happy thursday people.

PS. how much is it to send out scores? and who can explain to me the whole take DAT only 3 times starting from 2007???

didnt you use the kaplan blue book to study for the previous 2 DAT exams you took? so shouldnt you know if the CHM and OCHM in the kaplan blue book is enough or not?

oh plz god...let Kaplan blue book be more than enough 🙁

Kaplan BB is enough for genchem and organic, but you should use either Schaum's or Campbell's to supplement Kaplan's bio. Kaplan skips over or doesn't spend enough time on lots of bio topics in my opinion

Dont fret until you get the data. Last year I had straight 18 on AA SA and PAT I got interviews everywhere I applied. I did not get in though , buit when I aasked I was told that my community service/volunteer section was weak. So ya never know-- don't loose hope 🙂

i am amazed with ur GPA you didnt get in anywhere, thats bull. but maybe its because of the schools you applied to. my GPA is no where close to what you have lets let about 1.0 less..haha..but why not, i am doing my grad school right now and GPA is good. just need to maybe retake it one more time. but thanx alot for making me feel that i am still in the game..but we will see, its a good way to blow off couple thousand dollar and good practice.

for chem i think from what i read is enough, if you want to have somewhere around 19 o 20, but if want something like 27 u'll prob need something else, and bio, u need alot more than the kaplan book. as for ochem. i dont know..should be enough cant really say. but most likely from other threads, it should be enough to get u in the 20 range

yeah ADA is bad about updating thier site. some pages still say an applicant can take the exam as many times as they wish, thats wrong. but here go to this site and read under 'important announcment', it sums it up!

http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/testing/dat/index.asp

hope that helps.
