Hey guys,
I just took the DAT for the first time today (5/13) and boy am I happy I'm done with it!

Here are my scores:

PAT: 21
QR: 22
RC: 20
Bio: 19
GenChem: 25
OChem: 23
TS: 21
AA: 22

After browsing the forums, I think these are good enough scores, but I'm a bit disappointed with my Bio score. I don't have a Bio background (since I was an Engineering major in college) but still felt like I could've done better in that section.
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure with you helpful people to see what my chances are in getting into dental school. What do you guys think?

Few observations and advice:
*Note: The study materials I used were Kaplan DAT, Barron's, and Topscore.

-I thought the actual PAT was the more challenging than any of the practice exams I've encountered. One advice I have for those who have yet to take the DAT is you should try to master the PAT in Kaplan, Barron's, and Topscore. It also looks like Crack DAT PAT is a good program to prepare you in that area. I say it's worth the investment.
-There were a few Bio questions I didn't know the answer to. Questions were more detailed and the breadth of information was more than what the Kaplan covered. Had to make a few educated guesses. I say you should try to get 1 other Bio study book to complement the Kaplan. However, I think Kaplan adequately prepares you in G Chem and O Chem.
-Topscore is a good program to prepare you for DAT in all sections except PAT. I thought PAT in Topscore was easier than actual as noted above.
-Don't get too discouraged if you don't do well after taking your first practice test. I scored about a 17 across the board after taking my first practice test just 5 days before my actual exam date. Not only that, I wasn't anywhere close to finishing any sections in the alloted time allowed. I was freaking out! What turned things around for me was I kept practicing practicing practicing! Obtain as many practice exams as you can and practice, and shore up your weak points while making sure you master your strengths.

Good Luck to everyone who is studying for the DAT!

Your scores are good and well-rounded. I wouldn't worry too much about the 19 bio, as it is still above average.

Great job!!! How was QR? Any advice for that section?

well, i studied off the kaplan, which is decent. however, i found out my weakness was in permutation/combination and probability type questions. kaplan doesn't adequately prepare you for those kinds of questions so i basically googled them and tried to learn how to do them. in a nutshell, the best way to go about it is practice. everytime you go through a practice problem set, figure out where your weaknesses are and make sure you become familiar with that. good luck.

Thank you! Right now I am averaging a really slow speed. I'm pretty freaked out that I won't be able to get through the questions. Did you go through and find the easiest ones first? How were you on time? I always get A's in math (calculus, etc). so I have something to work with..I'm just really slow I guess? Same with reading though..

Don't worry about timing. first time going through a sample test, i was nowhere close to finishing. practicing should help you out a lot. 🙂

Awesome scores!! How were your scores on Topscore? I just took the first one and got an AA 17 on the sciences..ouch.

My Topscore scores were generally in the high teens to low 20s. don't worry if you got a 17. just keep at it, keep practicing and you'll do fine.
