Hey everyone, I just finished my interview at Penn, and I know that I would have loved to have known what to expect. I just wanted to open this thread to give people a chance to ask any questions they might have.

How was the faculties? Are they kind?
What were the questions asked?
Thanks!!

Hey everyone, I just finished my interview at Penn, and I know that I would have loved to have known what to expect. I just wanted to open this thread to give people a chance to ask any questions they might have.

How many people were there with you to interview? Any hard questions?

Honestly, I really loved the school. I'm sure that you have heard of the "dungeon", which was what I expected it to be: dark and old. But they are in the process of renovating all of the clinics. Besides the "dungeon" where you spend most of your first two years the facilities were really nice. There were 10 of us today, and everyone seemed really on the ball. The way they set it up is really nice. The atmosphere was more informative than intimidating, and the questions I was asked weren't too hard. I was interviewed by a faculty member named Sunday Akintoye, from Nigeria, who was really down to earth. He asked me: What would I do if there was contention in my practice because there was one person who was causing trouble. Why dentistry and not medicine. Why Penn. Where did I see dentistry in 20 years, and how did I feel about the way that dentistry was going. That was pretty much it. Then he asked me if I had any questions. The interview was definitely not as stressful as I thought that it would be. Let me know if you guys have any more questions.

Thanks for your insight and opinions on the school. Feel free to post your comments in the interview feedback section as well for future applicants to read as well. 🙂 Congratulations on getting through your interview.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like your interview went really well and I hope that you get an acceptance come Dec. 1st.

First of all, thanks for your help!
From the Question above, Could you tell us how the person is causing the trouble? What does he mean by "contention" ? Thanks!

He meant like if there was someone that worked for you and was always getting in fights with other coworkers and if patients were always complaining about that person, what would you do. Would you fire him/her, or would you try to work it out, etc.

Where do we go when we get there?

I should have applied there! Sounds like you did a great job. Hope you get in.

Do you mean where do you go when you get to Penn, or the Dental School? I entered the Dental School through the Schatner Building, and you have to walk into the Evans Building, and the admissions office is on the first floor. Once you check in there, they take you to a conference room. Whats really great about interviews at Penn is that they know who you are and they take good care of you (i.e. the lunches are good and they have your name on them, they have badges with your name on them, etc.). It makes you feel like they want you there, and that you aren't just another "name".

Yep, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks! Glad to hear your interview went well!

Thanks so much for the info. Would you tell me when your interview day ended and how long the actual interview took?

Hope you get your acceptance letter soon! good luck👍

I had the last interview slot (1:30-2:00), and so I got out a little after that, but I think that some people left earlier, because they had the earlier interview. They only have one one-on-one interview that lasts 30 minutes.

Do they tell you what time you're interviewing at when you get there? I haven't received a schedule.

Yeah they give you a packet with a ton of info, and in it it tells you who is going to be interviewing you and what time. I'm telling you the whole thing is really classy. They are on the ball there. You feel like they are really ready for you when you show up.

Awesome, I'm really looking forward to it! I just thought I was a little out of the loop because I hadn't received a schedule or anything.

Good luck! I'm sure you did great!

thanks for all the info, dayfu17. Although I'm still going to be quite nervous come interview time, at least I'll feel a little more prepared...🙂
