I was talking to my grandmother recently about starting medical school and we got into some details of the DO degree. I was clarifying some things for her--her physician is a DO. She then told me a story and I thought I would share it on here...

At her doctor's office, there is a sign on the door--like most places--reading "Dr. John Smith, DO". My grandmother was in for an appointment one day, and two little old ladies walked in. They started talking among themselves and my grandma overheard one lady say, "DO...I wonder what that stands for???" They stared at each other, perplexed. Finally, the other one said, "It must mean Doctor On duty."

LOL. This cracked me up. Hope it provides a laugh for you, too! 🙂

Doctor on duty ... I like that one. I've also heard a few people say they thought it meant doctor of orthopedics.

Hahaa thats funny, but whats the difference between MD and DO?

We're cooler. Hence why DO school accreditation agency is abbreviated COCA, which is close to Coco. Coco is a nickname for Conan O'Brian, the current Tonight Show host who is being boned by NBC. MDs are all fans of Leno and Leno sucks almost as bad as Letterman at being funny.

LOL.

I'm glad so many of you enjoyed this as much as I did! 🙂

... the "doctor on duty" comment from the old ladies... what did you think "it" was?
Haha well I wasn't sure if you were posting in response to the first post or Jagger's post right before which saying something about doctors of orthopedics. Just clarifying 🙂
