Ahhh feeling a little bit frustrated, but I'm just glad I passed. I don't know what it was about calculus... I studied so hard, put in so many hours, but for some reason I just couldn't get at least a B! What worries me is that I'm going to take O.Chem next semester, and from my research, people are saying that O.Chem is harder than calculus. I'm getting a little bit of anxiety over this. Has anyone here got a C in calculus but rocked O.chem, or some sort of similar situation? lol, i just noticed this was pretty much a semi-rant

C- in calculus. Easy A in O.chem.

Although I did change my study habits drastically... so I might not be the best example. Just brush it off, buckle down, and rock your next semester.

Ochem, more or less, is about predicting where electrons are going. Don't try to memorize reactions and instead try to reason them out with the basic rules that you will learn early on.

You got dis. 🙂

As I see it ochem is mostly memorization while calc is mathematic reasoning. I don't think doing badly in one says anything about the other.

I got a C in Calculus and an A in O Chem. I hate math. O Chem is a lot easier if you buy the book Organic Chemistry as a Second Language

Organic chemistry was really an enjoyable class because everything was interrelated. All the reactions you have to know are pretty predictable once you know the rules of reactions, and the other miscellaneous stuff like naming and trends are easy as well. The hardest part of ochem is H-NMR and predicting structures from that. My guess is that you'll be fine as long as you work hard.

Calculus and Organic Chemistry do not have much in common so do not freak out just because you did poorly in Calculus.

Yep, totally agree. Two separate beasts. If you're more science oriented and put in the time, no reason why an A or B isn't possible in ochem. Calculus, on the other hand, is in my opinion an insanely useless class for premeds.

I killed Ochem and struggled with physics 101 - my hardest class. I would not attempt calc, not my forte`.

Apples to oranges. Don't fret. Ochem gets this rap as being an evil monster that will suck out your marrow. I thought it was a pretty cool class.

I agree that organic chemistry has a terrible reputation for being a lot harder than it is. As with any other class, the more time you put in the better you will do. This holds especially true for organic chemistry because, as I said previously, everything is interrelated and begins to make sense after learning the basics.

As someone who retook O-chem 1 TWICE, and O-chem 2 TWICE...and finally getting As in both semesters on my third try....ALL you have to do is WORK HARD... STAY FOCUSED... ASK YOUR TEACHER IF YOU AREN'T SURE OF ANYTHING... and PRACTICE!

Once I felt genuinely interested in what I was learning and stopped thinking of it as bull****, the grades came right away. I honestly now feel like I can tutor O-chem. The first semester was much more conceptual stuff about resonance, and hindrance, and E and Z and all of that, and the second semester was straight up reactions and products. You got this playa!
