We had our first NBME two weeks ago and today I got the results. I got 480 points which was a 79% score comparing to the class average. So I got the grade 4.5 out of 5. I'm pretty happy with that since it really reflects on how I did on the other partial tests in anatomy (top 15 in the class)...

My question is. How good is actually a score of 480 points comparing to the US standard?

Since I'm in a European school I don't really know to much about the NBME's except that our school makes us take them bc of the American students in my class.

Oh yeah I should add that I only reviewed for two weeks (not very intensivly) before the exam, because I had all of the Gross anatomy classes and tests the first year I didnt remember everything as well as I could have the first year, but I knew I would pass, and since these grades doesn't mather to much for me since I'm not going to practice in the US I did not put that big of an effort into it.

When I took the exams 2-4 years ago I believe the national average was 500.

Thank you! Works for me since it was so long I had the classes 🙂

The national average is always a 500 since it's a scaled test. Every 100 points is a standard deviation.

Ah, makes sence! Didn't think of that lol...
:meanie:

Milk is right. 500 is the avg (not sure about the std. deviation..I thought it was 80-100 pts), but needless to say, our class avg during M1 was 520ish, I got 610, about 20 people btwn 600-700, 10 over 700. high score: 790

The 100 point per std. dev. is part of how they score it. It makes figuring out how you compare quite easy. In other words, that 610 is pretty darn good!
