I just got off the phone with the AADSAS and they could not answer my question because, "That is up to your discretion sir!" Hopefully you guys can shed some light!

So I am retaking the DAT July 23--don't ask about my first scores they were terrible. The problem is that my new scores will not be uploaded to AADSAS until 3-4 weeks later in mid August. I am trying to figure out the best thing to do with my current timeline. Let me know if this sounds like a good plan to you!

1) Finish and E-submit my first application this weekend (AADSAS said it takes 4-6 weeks to process).
2) Instead of processing for my fully planned 15 schools, I was thinking about spending the 227 dollars to process a school that I wasn't planning on going to.
3) When AADSAS says the DAT scores are updated, pay the remaining fees for my chosen 15 schools and send them out.

I know it sounds weird but in this way my application will be completely done and ready to go, and then i can just tell them to send it to the other 15 schools when the DAT scores are updated. My dilemma is that i do not want my application to go out to all the schools with just my trashy DAT score and not my new updated one with it as well!

Does this sound feasible at all?

if i were in ur situation i would do that because i have seen threads where ppl were rejected before the school even got the retake scores. and mid august for a completely done app if still good esp if you plan on doing well on the DAT.

lol nice you are taking my suggestion into consideration....

Like I said before yeah just do it b/c why stress and wait for your transcripts/LOR to be processed. and you would just be waiting for DAT SCORES...

you have to pay 227 for YOUR VERY FIRST SCHOOL no matter what anyways right then you would just be wasting 72 dollars.

Well personally, I'm taking it August 14th. Don't worry; the DENTPIN takes like 2-3 days to be automatically updated online and the SECOND you receive your "unofficial" scores, you can fax them to many many schools and they'll accept it for the most part.

lol, you called aadsas for advice on this? bro start thinking before you act. no offense.

Yeah thanks Peanutb123 for the suggestion. It seems like the best solution.

@2pacclone23--If i remember right when i called the ADA about when my retake of the DAT would be available they said that the earliest they would be sent to the AADSAS would be on the 2nd wednesday after you take the DAT. In reality she said it would take 3-4 weeks depending on mail traffic.

So if I understand that correctly If I take the DAT on July 23rd, the earliest it would be available to the AADSAS and therefore updated on the primary application would be roughtly 3 weeks later or sometime mid to late august. It seems like they are being more serious about accepting DAT scores directly from the AADSAS this year.

Can anyone comfirm this?

How can it take 2-3 weeks when it's electronic? Unless, of course, you're talking about OFFICIAL copies but not all schools even require those. Some accept FAX copies the second you get your unofficial report, others just want the DENTPIN. Let's all hope we rape the DAT.

If you have the stats that you are COMFORTABLE with. What you can bring to the table is eye catching and you think the admssions will catch up then submit first and retake later. If you don't think you're that competitive than wait until you have a strong DAT score to back you up

But i believe his problem is that There is no button to indicate that he will retake the exam. So if he applies and schools now & if they go though his app. before getting his new scores... he is fearing rejection based on his old scores. Thats why he is looking for ways to apply after taking dats and have almost everything ready in time.

Wow I'm in the same exact situation as you and I was also planning on retaking my DATs on that same date! Did you decide to go through with your plan?

I contacted them and they said (some said this), they accept email of the retake while others want a letter.

You mean like proof that you're going to be retaking the DATs again? I don't know if I should use hoylematt's plan or just call up every school and let them know that I will be retaking.

I emailed all schools I had previously put on my original ADA-DAT application (only 5, as I didn't know if I was going to re-take, but ended up applying to 7). Anyway, I contacted all 5 original schools via email saying to hold my app until my new scores were available in August, all said they would except Boston, but they said there is a chance my app wouldn't be reviewed before my new DAT anyway.

hmm i might just do this..do u think this way is more feasible than hoylematt's way?

Your old scores are currently listed, though, right? Because neither the ADA nor ADEA/AADSAS notify schools that you've registered to re-take the exam, so you can submit and then contact the schools to let them know you'll have newer scores coming in and ask them not to make a decision on your app until then. They might go ahead and review everything and make a tentative decision and then finalize it once your scores come in. You can also ask them if you can fax your unofficial score report to them as soon as you take your test.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but e-submit right away once you are done with the application. Take your test and you'll get a score automatically. Usually the DAT scores will be sent to AADSAS within the week. Also you can fax/e-mail your scores to the dental schools if they have your application and is just waiting on your DAT scores. Also make a note of when you are going to take your DAT again on your application before sending it in.

AADSAS will not get your scores within the week. i took my exam June 7th and they didnt get uploaded until the 30th

You are absolutely right. The real question I have is if I esubmit with one school right now, and then appoint all the rest of the schools I want to apply to after I take the DAT for the 2nd time--how long will AADSAS take to send out my already "ready to go" application to the other schools?

If it takes them 3 weeks, then I am going to appoint all the rest of the schools the day I take the DAT and know my scores. If the AADSAS sends it out in a week I may wait until the new DAT scores become available instead.

I am going to call AADSAS and ask them tomorrow.

so how long after score is uploaded to AADSAS will schools actually have it?
