Just how much better do Canadian applicants have to be for MD?

Specifically Canadians who studied at Canadian universities (not all 'international' students). Now I've looked at MSAR spreadsheet stats which give me the number of matriculated internationals at various schools, but I have also been informed that many schools make no distinction between Canadian and U.S. applicants, or the upper hand is given to Canadians over other internationals.

So I need to know, is a Canadian attending an MD school reserved for all but the top applicants, or is this something reasonably attainable? I understand that it varies school to school. Any stats about specifically Canadian applicants would be very nice.

Canadian applicants seem to be pretty successful when applying to American medical schools. Many schools consider them as out of state.

Scroll down to 'Applying to American schools.' You will see many of them already have acceptances from great schools.

Ah.. nice forum techno. I heard about it, but in fact have never gone there. It was indeed a nice read, the odds dont look so good tho, its only a handful of ppl doing well, and everybody else seems to be getting rejected...

But I'm outta the loop there too, even tho I study in Toronto, I'm not Canadian... heh...

guess there wouldnt be any other forum for the minority me huh? (non american and canadian?) lol

Thanks, read out taht section and nodded my head furiously to the GPA only for canadian schools. lolz.

Yeah, I do hope so, but when I was checking out which schools to apply to, there were some schools that only accepted Canadians (and no other internationals), and I was... not part of that. Haha... I think they take nationality quite seriously. because.. i mean Canada doesnt even recognize me as applying as a citizen or PR... (cant apply to anywhere else but UofT and Mac)... so I must be delusional to think that the US will consider me Canadian.

I talked to a guy on an adcom at one canadian med school

I was asking about stuff like volunteering and he's like, "well we don't really need that we probably won't ask you about it" he said they'd rather see research for evidence that we can think logically etc

interesting, to be honest, i dont know what we can do that really shows we can become good doctors.

some ppl play the system to get a good gpa (bird courses here and there, easy subject posts), and some ppl volunteer/research only because they want to get to med school...

but i guess if u get all of it down, whether u did it for med school or not, its still quite a remarkable achievement...

which med school is it?
are u ontario or bc? or somewhere else. to be honest, the only school i can imagine talking like that is uoft-.- loolz. research + gpa. the only two things that want in med students.... and their profs...

grades are controlled and profs are usually only here because they do some remarkable research in order to boost our ranking. -.-
