Let me set the scene:

I majored in English and minored in Chemistry with intentions of going to medical school. My school offered me a full ride for a masters in English, and since I figured it would take me some time before I actually got into med school anyway I humbly accepted the offer. I got a job as a dental assistant to pay the bills the summer after freshman year, I was trained and worked as a dental assistant all throughout college& grad school (5yrs) I loved it so much I decided I wanted to go to dental school!

Currently I'm living in South Korea teaching English and saving up some cash while in the process of working on my thesis. I still want to apply for dental school but here's the thing....carrying a heavy course load and working 2 jobs I had a less than stellar performance in my pre-reqs. I took a practice DAT did 15 on science sections and 22 reading comp, 15 math, perception 17.

I guess my question is although my science/math GPA is low, do I have a chance of getting into dental school at all with my other experience. Will schools even take my dental assistant experience into consideration? I have more technical and hands on experience than most students have in their 2nd year of D-school (I know this because at my last office we trained 3rd yr students on how to take x-rays properly). I know this is what I want to do because I've in some sense done it. Should I just take all my pre-reqs over after I finish my MA?

And please don't tell me to consider another career because I've already done so, and its quite rude and discouraging...

I would routinely get 15s or 16s on my practice DATs, but ended up getting a 23 on the real thing. Practice DATs don't mean much.

which practice DAT did you take? and also, what is your GPA? Like stated above, fixing GPA is way harder than getting a higher DAT score

don't give up though!

No HeyEjo, I wasn't taking it with the intentions of getting 25/30 because I was working on my masters...I took the practice Kaplan about a year ago and didn't study, just wanted to see where I stand...my overall GPA was 3.5 but my science/math was 2.6 (terrible). Take all my pre-reqs over or study my ASS off for the DAT?
BTW...I think its worth mentioning that I'd like to attend U of PR or NYU... I'm from NY, my moms family is from PR, I plan to practice there.
