There's 134-135 people in my class. 55%-59% are female. Less than 4 female students have children. Many male students have children (myself included). Also there are 5 female students in my class that initiated the divorce process the first year (none have children). I'm curious if other pharmacy classes have low numbers of females with children or if there were a lot of divorces throughout school.

Please note: I am not making any judgements on any of these situations. I am merely recognizing the fact that they exist.

You sexist BASTARD!

I find that this subject is quite inflammatory in nature given the examples given as the reason to pose the question. I would suggest, if you feel the need to respond that you do so in a professional manner. If you feel you can not do so, please refrain from responding. Perhaps the OP might rephrase so as not to incite further comments of a similar nature.

Quite a few folks with children in my class (no males actually). I don't really make any inquiries into any circumstances since it doesn't concern me.

What are you asking exactly? Spell it out so I can understand. I don't want to assume anything before responding.

I was suggesting the stats do not mimic the general population. I am wondering what factors play into this fact. I am in no way suggesting that anyone is shelfish or choosing one thing over another.

My initial statement was an observation. I drew no conclusions.

The purpose of my post is to determine if this is a general trend in pharmacy school or if it is unique to my school.

I guess I'm really dumb, but I still don't know what you are asking except why there are more male students with children than female students with children. What are the ages of the students? Are the males the same age as the females? Maybe the males are older and therefore more likely to be married. There are so many variables, you can't really draw any conclusion from the observation you made.....

Most of the students in our pharmacy program are "single" females. Ninety-nine percent of the students that I've met who have children are female. If I recall correctly, I know of only one male student who is married with a child, and I've only seen a handful of wedding bands within the male students.
Therefore, in general, only females are married and/or have children.

I just did a quick count based on a list of my classmates:

58 students (36 male, 22 female)
37 are married
At least 22 of us have kids, but only 5 of those with kids are female
One guy in my class has 6 kids, and several people have 4 kids
None of the girls in my class are pregnant (that I know of), but several of the guys' wives are expecting.
Oh, and as far as I know 2 of the girls in my class are divorced (not remarried). I don't think that any of the guys have been divorced, but kids are a more common subject of conversation than ex-husbands/wives.

Keep in mind, of course, that this is in SE Idaho, so there are other demographics in play. 😉

I'm pretty sure women initiate divorce across the board--I don't think it's unique to students in pharmacy school or pharmacists.

Wow, 37 out of 58 are married. I'm one of a few who are married w/ a kid in my class, but I did used to live in SE Idaho while going to Ricks. Only junior college where each and every class I took had someone in it who was married. That reminds me, the weather must still be nice there. I always loved the Pacific Northwest weather in the late summer, especially around Jackson Hole/the Tetons/Yellowstone area.
