Just to clarify, we only are allowed 1322 characters, not 1325?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Probably counting hard returns as a character, or possibly two, depending on their system. But I recall this being a problem with my app too.

Paste your response into a basic text program and then there is a way to remove all formatting. Paste this back into AMCAS. Then, at the end of each paragraph, you should be able to delete a space or two (especially at the end). That is what I did last year, and it helped regain about 10 characters or so depending on the length.

I noticed that the amcas website always deletes whatever is ahead of 1322, making that the true effective limit.

That is exactly what happened to my application. You're fortunate to have caught something that many other applicants may have missed.

Or is there something funny going on with my browser?

Like others said, AMCAS counts returns as a space. Sometimes even two. Your best bet is to to into a word document and search for ". " which is "period space space" and replace with ". " or "period space." I got an extra 24 characters with that. Then copy and past into a notebook document and delete the returns and re-enter them. Also make sure to delete any spaces after the last sentence in a paragraph. That added another 4 characters to mine. 28 characters is enough to create a few very powerful verbs.
