I am freaking out right now because I have multiple low scores and I cannot retake the test for 90 days. I am applying to dental schools right now and I'm afraid these scores will prevent me from getting in. The QR was a complete joke. I got many questions that required knowledge of formulas that are NOT included in practice test software, Kaplan books, or any other DAT prep materials (including the destroyer)! And the calculator they added to it is a joke, too. It frequently messes up and you can't use the 10-key to enter numbers like you can on the computer and that is what I was banking on!

Question for the readers:

If you have taken the DAT, what would you do in my position?

Do you know of anyone that has gotten into Dental school with scores like these?

Would it be in my best interest to retake it in 90 days?

Thanks for your help guys!:scared:

You are right on the brink of needing to retake or not. Everything looks respectable except that 15 QR. The 17 Bio hurt you, but isn't terrible. Go ahead and apply. You will be gambling a bit if you don't retake, but it's up to you.

You need to calm down and search this forum. Hundreds of threads and breakdowns answering all your questions. Relax, use the search function at the top right, and spend an hour searching the site.

here is a link to someone who did well on the test and if you continue down his explanation you'll see the link to another guy's breakdown who scored way above 20. I didn't do well enough to give advice that will relieve your stress. Sorry 🙁

What is your GPA/sGPA? That will help determine whether you should apply or not.

word of advice to you on quantitative reasoning.
read the quesion and if you can't get the method of approach in 2 seconds, mark and skip. solve ONLY those ones you can immediatey first. go through all 40. then go through the one that are marked and start solving. You will get a much higher score.

I honestly did not expect to do exactly 20 questions in that time. Stupid of me to waste that much time when i know there were easier questions on the end.

listen to this guy/girl, he/she nows what he/she is talking about! knowing how to take the exam (time management espeically for QR) is just as important as knowing the stuff ont he exam

you deff need to retake it. you are below avg on most of the sections except the PA

Was it below a 3.3? Because if it was, then yes you should, but if not, you might have a chance.

It's slightly above that, but still...I need a more competitive approach. I already registered again with the ADA website so we shall see...I'll retake it in Sept 10.

Thanks

Well...I'm above avg on PAT, RC, and O.chem. The avg is 17-19 so I'm only below AVG on 1 subject.
Yea, the only sections that stand out a little are the 17 on Bio and 15 on QR. However, what averages are you referring to? Your percentages or assumed statistics?

i just noticed you were a kentucky resident. your scores are deff competitive for that state,The means in the ADEa GUIDE to DENTAL SCHOOL ( 2010) for university of lousiville: AA: 18, PA: 19, TS: 18. this was obviously for the year that was just accepted. but for most other schools, the means are usually a minimum of 19ns ( for AA, PA, TS), yes there are deff ranges , but i assume the ranges are there incase a person does really well on 2 of those sections, but not so well on the other.

Just to clarify. ADEA 2010 statistics represents the class of 2013 statistics, not class of 2014. So last years incoming class. ADEA 2011 will be for those who are about to start their freshman year

I might go ahead and apply and see what happens.. the QR and Bio scores are pretty low but overall I think its a decent average. If you hav good extra curricular activities you might have good chance 🙂.......Gud luck !

awww thanks future dds. i will definatey spend time on this forum. and good luck to u . ur scores are not too bad. everything wil be fine. gud luck. and thanks again.

you have to understand that your AA and TS are avg. if you have a avg gpa and extra curricular activity, with a nice personal statement you have a chance of getting interviews.
