Took the exam recently, and here are all the mistakes that I remember...
1) Did not listen to all 4 areas of the heart - only the top 2 (aortic and pulmonic areas) for most cases
2) When listening to heart, I did not use the drape - only pulled the gown slightly down and placed my stethoscope under the gown - NEVER examined patients through the gown
3) Overall, my physical exams were a bit spartan (most definitely did not do a full physical in most cases)
4) May not have gotten all the leading differential correctly (and for many cases only put 2 ddx instead of the recommended 3)
5) Occasionally forgot to ask minor components of the history such as family history or recent travel experience
6) Most patients never asked a "challenge question" - does this mean I completely missed the boat?
7) I tend to say during counseling "the most likely diagnosis is x, but we'll need to run some more tests to rule out y" - however I am under the impression that we should be even more vague than that?
8) Sometimes forgot to counsel patient about high blood pressure and alcohol use
9) I am sure there are A LOT more...but those are all the ones I remember...
Is this normal? Or am I in trouble?
Below are some things I think I did okay/well on...
1) My notes are pretty decent for the most part - they are complete and reasonably well written
2) I consistently greeted patient by name, asked for permission to sit down, summarized their basic HPI, and washed my hands
3) Didn't feel like that I completely flunked any case...
