Just took the free usmle practice exam - how does it compare to uworld?

Uworld consistently kicks my butt and discourages me with appalling scores but somehow on the free usmle practice test I got 60% correct (while debating with my husband at the same time😛). Is this just a much easier test than the real thing? It felt much much easier than world. But i'm just wondering, is the real test going to be similar assault as uworld is or something like the free practice test online?

are you talking about the free 150?

i found it ridiculously easy, and i still think most everything else is hard. but apparently it correlates well with your score. im hoping as well

people thought it was hard???! The free one online? I thought it was pretty ridiculously easy and this is coming from a person that gets beaten to the ground everyday by uworld.

does it give you a three-digit score or just percent correct? and this is what you take when you do a practice session at a prometric center?

Any suggestions on how to correlate that practice exam score with the real thing?

when you guys say "ridiculously easy", what does that mean it terms of score? 80%? 90%?

It means you're on SDN (aka gunnerland).

Via medfriends, a mid-70% correlates to a 230ish.

It's a nice spread of all the testable subjects IMO.

It's certainly MUCH easier that USMLEworld thats for sure!

Which is kinda weird if people are saying it's ridiculously easy since the correlation for NBME I saw floating around the net says 70% correct on a NBME correlates to just barely over 200.

So that means the free 150 is really harder than the NMBEs?

It probably has to do with MedFriends' scale. I don't know where they got that scale, but it doesn't seem to correlate well with the NBME scale.

Several people I know who took the test within the last two years said that the free 150 predicted their score almost exactly. However, this year a few of my friends who have taken it said that it seemed very easy and that the medfriends score estimator gave them a score anywhere from 15-30 points over what they got on a full-lenth NBME the week prior. Maybe this year's set of questions is just easier??? I wonder if doing an older Free 150 (if you can get your hands on one) would be a better estimate...

where are these free Qs?

Are they the practice questions on the NBME website testing the Fred V2 software?

Does the free 150 change every year? I just assumed it's been the same questions for awhile...

And medfriends puts 89% at a 257 +/- 11. Looking good!!

Except they also put me at a 213 +/- 13 based on my Kaplan QBank percentage. 😕

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping to score between a 200 and a 268, but I'd like to have a bit more precision within that range.

interesting that you're averaging the same percent for UW and kaplan... UW estimates would put you higher.... but then it's all speculation until the real deal in the end isn't it?

When is a good time to take this test? After you have shored up your knowledge base or as a good first test to give a baseline?

If you plan on doing a practice test at your testing center before you actually take the real thing. They give you those exact questions if you come in and do a practice run at the prometric center.

:roflcopter: For some reason, that cracked me up. I'd like between a 200 and 268, too.
