Hi All,

I know it's late in the game to apply for 2007, I haven't taken PCAT yet. But I have made a decision about going to Pharmacy school for 2008. I would like to go but have some lingering doubts about grades and other things. I have a BS in Biochemistry (not so hot 3.0 GPA), worked in academic research for a few years and I am currently in grad school in Maryland. I don't care for it. I like the idea of interacting with people and their needs rather than pipettes and cells. I know being a pharmacist isn't a bed of roses and a career in science still very much appeals to me. I know that its no indicator but I took both Pharmacology and Toxicology during my senior yr. of college and loved it!!! If I decided to leave my prgm, and apply to Pharmacy school how will this look to admin commitees?

You sound like a good applicant, maybe try to take or retake some classes to raise your GPA. Since you're going to wait to apply in 2008, I would take the PCAT in June, so you have 6 months to study, and then you have the option of retaking it in October if you're not happy with your scores. I guess the only other thing that you could do is maybe do some volunteer work in the health field and get your pharm tech certification, and maybe get a job in a pharmacy.

You should be good with your degree.Just score high on the pcat.Start studying now and take it in June.Advice, the pcat is not a joke it looks very simple but you have to be very specific and know the material. You have time.

If your question is whether or not to bother applying this year and if applying this late looks bad, I'd have to say late is relative. The schools with a 12/1 deadline, it may look less desirable. But some schools have jan and feb deadlines which means you're one/two months early. I'd say the 3.0 is not hot, but it is above minimums required for a lot of schools and with the BS in the bag and research experience, it wouldn't be a total waste and better to waste a little time and money and get in in 07 than to not try and find out in 08 that you wasted a year by not applying earlier.
