Just wrote my DAT!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well Tufts rejected me.....They emailed me saying i should consider doing a masters or take more 400 level courses and bring my gpa to atleast 3.0.....
i think this month ill get most rejections.

U heard from tufts? That is news!!

Yea...Well i got 5 rejections now. 15 left to go.
Btw i was thinking how do big private schools value letter of recommendations from professors (we dont have a pre dental committee, so i need 2/3 ref. letters froms sci profs) i ask cuz i might have to start getting a research position so i can get a good/decent ref letter from profs. Like will "bad" or "not so good" ref. letters hold me back? MY dentist reference letters (2 of them) are great!

Stop worrying about research. You need to get straight As. Not some As or mostly As - if you want to get into dental school, you need straight As to climb out of the hole you dug for yourself. As for letters of rec - start going to professor office hours and getting to know them. Make yourself stand out. Let them get to know you. That's the best way to get a nice letter of rec while working to maintain high grades.

I don't get why you posted this post when you are not going to listen to people.
1) You didn't do enough research on what you should do on your situation (sub 3.0 gpa), which shows your laziness.
2) People told you already what you have to do. You need to get As, no research, don't worry about letter but freaking get As in many upper div classes.
The only thing holding you right now is your grade, not mediocre letters, average DAT or your ECs. Either way the letters can be either good (professor knows you well and can write positive things about you , whether academic wise and/or work ethics, personality, etc), mediocre (writes a letter how you are good student and you can get As but doesn't go into personal stuff), or bad ( tells adcoms to not accept you), but most of the cases, professor will write you either good or mediocre ones.
With your GPA you are looking at doing at least 2 years of academic courseload. And you probably have to retake DAT not only to increase your chances, but also because by then your DAT will be expired.
If you have questions, search doctooth and read the files that he/she uploaded (i.e. Miniguide to dental school, spreadsheet of stats). And lastly have some common sense. You are competing with plenty of people with 3.6+ gpa and 20AA DAT. The lowest accepted GPA from most schools was barely sub 3.0( 2.96gpaish). Do some research before asking or have some knowledge on how to maximize your chances before you apply to dental school.

I am taking advice, matter of fact i have been progressing nicely since. I wrote my first midterm for a biology class and got a 95%.
I asked many times just to verify my thoughts, and to collect many ideas, and the results were unanimous

The clock only moves forward.

Keep up that attitude, and you'll get to where you need to be.

An awesome quote I saw at Jimmy John's: "If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them, then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them."
