Hi everyone,

I tried doing a search to find the answer to my question but didn't have any luck. Kansas state's website doesn't have any info on the minimum number of hours of clinical/animal experience necessary to apply. Does anyone know if theres a minimum, and for those that got in or applied there, how many hours of experience did you have?

I don't think there is a minimum. I was accepted with about 300 hrs clinical experience, so not a lot. Kansas state looks A LOT at GRE and Pre-req science grades.

I have no idea if they have a minimum or if it is even published, but I got accepted with 200 hrs of shelter med., 80 hrs of S.A. shadowing, 7 😳 hours of L.A., and 80 hours of research (of course these have grown a bit, but this was time of app.)

so hope that helps! but fyi, my gpa and gre are high, so that probably helped my case

I had about 300 hours equine, 50 small, and 40 lab, so not too much at all. However I had a boatload of animal hours with horses and my GRE and GPA are competitive. Have you checked out the successful applicants threads from the past couple years? They might help you out.

Also as I am sure you know, the minimum does no always cut it and what worked for someone else might not for you

^^ What they all said.

On the other hand, I think K-State must care somewhat about your experience (quality not quantity) because they gave me an interview with >6500 hours vet experience. My GPA is crap, and my GRE is iffy too.
Of course, I only made it as far as the waitlist 🙂mad🙂

I have no clinical experience other than shadowing around 70 hours over the span of 10 years. I also have an average GRE score and high gpa. I have a lot of animal experience though - so that's probably what got me in. Who knows! 😛

thanks for the responses everyone. I anticipate having a cum gpa of 3.6 and a science gpa of 3.68 by the time I apply. my gre scores are 560 verbal and 640 quant (that was a baseline score without studying, im planning on taking it again). I have over a 100 hours of animal experience at a zoo, but only about 30 hours of small animal shadowing. Im planning on getting on top of that though, hopefully will have at least 150 by application time...
