So I am thinking about using Kaplan for Biology, I want to but I heard Kaplan prep books do not prepare you to think MCAT like, is this true?

I have EK and PR in addition to Kaplan.

I use EK before but didn't have good results..
( I could not answer one question in EK correctly, then I read PR bio ( physiology section) come back and was answering the questions with ease and getting abt 80 % right.)

I have PR and it is too detailed and takes me FOREVER to rd a chapter.

I've been taking a Kaplan course for a month now and I think their textbooks (especially in the sciences) give a really nice overview of everything you need to know. They don't go into excessive detail and focus only on what is needed for the exam, which is nice because then you can supplement with TPR/other textbooks if you want more details. Although I have to say they have a lot of useless stories and analogies that "help" you remember the stuff, but I just skip over those. The way they organize some chapters is also kind of confusing too (such as in the endocrine system) so I found myself referring to EK a lot during that chapter, since EK goes over the endocrine system in a lot less detail and is therefore easier to remember.

So interpret that however you like; Kaplan bio isn't perfect either but it is pretty clear and concise, and goes into more detail than EK but less than TPR/TBR, so I think it might be what you're looking for.

I like TPR better for bio, but kaplan gets you there. I watched some good TPR videos for bio but towards the end of the class, you can see them losing focus, so the topics werent covered as well. I suppose it all depends on the class and instructor in this case. I'm comparing TPR online hyperlearning to the kaplan on demand btw.

I'm personally partial to Kaplan for everything except for verbal. I think the bio is their best, actually.

Kaplan seems the best at balancing the amount of detail and moving you along through the material though. I've noticed, especially with resources like TBR you can get into this situation where you feel like you need to memorize everything and before you know it you're very far behind with not really much to show for it. In the end it's the problems/passages really, how many of them you can work and learn from.

I also am a fan of Kaplans stuff. I used BR and self studied for my first exam. Obviously didn't go as well as I wanted so I switched to Kaplan. I felt like BR went into way too much detail which bogged me down. In my opinion Kaplan does a better job at focusing on the big picture and giving you the tools you need to answer questions.

Don't be fooled.

I thought Kaplan Bio was more condensed than PR bio but than I realized that Kaplan Bio is 30 pgs less than PR... for some reason Kaplan book is just smaller..
