Kaplan Class

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Who are your teachers?

Here's what I know so far from experience and 2nd hand

Harris (Pharm) - really good, very HY and hits the highlights. Def helped me in pharm and I'd recommend attending at least a day worth of his lectures.

Posey (Path) - absolutely horrible, pray you don't have the guy b/c he really doesn't know what "board prep" means. He's a pathologist and its like listening to someone ramble on about path w/out direction

Fitzavich (Physio) - good explanations about the concepts and seems to be good. If you know physio pretty well, you might have better use of your time studying out of the BRS. If you need something explained, its probobly worthwhile to go

Barone (Path) -2nd hand source: heard amazing things about him from a friend who took his 3 day course. Apparently he's very HY and on a little bit of speed but very very helpful

Kudrath (Physio) - 2nd hand source: I hear he teaches physio and goes slowly and isn't too HY but explains things decent.

Thats all I know of. If anyone has any info on Sanchez (Path) I'd be interested to know other students thoughts of him and his teaching style

i took the 15 day one, spread out over couple months. It was useful. Again, depends on the instructors. I didn't think Harris was that great. We had Lyonell for path, and the dude was amazing--definately right up with goljan. Infact, a lot of hsi stuff was presented in a similar fashion. I thought kudrath was pretty good too. Turco for biochem was very much amazing as well. Most of these guys are good.

The usefulness of the class depends on whether u learn by listening or reading on your own. I am much better on my own, but I took a spread out one, so it was more helpful, in terms of the way I learn. Overall, it was still useful.

Thanks for the advice, I'm not usually a class person, but it's been a positive experience so far. I just keep hearing that Kaplan had too much info, and I wasn't sure if I was wasting my time.

Hi...I'm a foreign student just starting to prepare for USMLE Step I. I've looked at several types of books in my school library (NMS, BRS...) and was confused as to which book is the best. Anyway, I purchased a full set of Kaplan books from a senior. He assured me that these books are all I need to prepare for USMLE. Nothing else. After reading the forums, I noticed that nobody mentioned the Kaplan range. Are they enough? Are they good? Thx!

I'm not a class person either but I think the 15 day intense prep was great. If nothing else, it forced me to get through a certain amount of material in a short period of time. I only had 4 weeks to study and this course definitely made it easier to prioritize....
