Hi everybody,

I have paid the deposit for the Kaplan DAT course, but now I am wondering if it is helpful or not. My concern is wasting time for 7 hours a week, when I can study on my own.
Are the courses worth the time, and do they help a lot with the DAT?

I would really appreciate your help, and good luck 🙂

i took the online course, and found a coupon code online for either 100 or 200 bucks off, which made me feel good. anyways, I felt the course helped me because it kind of made me study in order to get the guarantee. There are about 4-5 full length tests and lots of quizzes online and you can take them over and over. They difinitely give you lots of materials, not everything you need, but most of it. Many people will say they don't have everything form the sciences on it, well no one study material does. I thought it was sufficient, but that's my opinion. I would still order crack dat pat and math.

Hi everybody,

It really depends! I took the KAPLAN course the 1st time I took the DAT and it didn't help me at all, in terms of learning anything new. Most of the strategies I was taught were lame and extremely time consuming and the class meetings were a complete waste of time, because the person who taught the class didn't really know the material himself. Besides, some people showed up to the class, expecting the instructor to teach them Organic Chemistry from scratch, and those people wasted everyone else's time. So, to make the long story short the class meetings were a complete waste of time (IMO).
However, there are some benefit associated with taking a KAPLAN prep course:
-If you're completely lost and you don't know where and how to begin preparing for the DAT, KAPLAN can help you with that.
-They have awesome online resources (Workshops, quizzes, full length exams, etc.), which are only available to students who are enrolled in the class or in the online course.

So, there are some benefits associated with KAPLAN, but attending the actual sessions is a complete waste of time.
Finally, don't forget that KAPLAN resources are by no means sufficient to ace the exam. You still need to purchase other books, software, etc. in addition to whatever KAPLAN provides you with.

i decided to take the course simply because i haven't done Genchem or QR in over 5 years (i'm a post bac). on the 1 or 2 classes that covered those concepts, the 'lecture' was somewhat worth the time. but over all, i think the class time is not worth it. also, my instructor, though very nice and eager to help, he made tons of mistakes and was corrected by the students very often. 😕

The online materials are solid though, so you might consider keeping that portion.

Save your money and just buy the course material on ebay for a price that is a lot cheaper than 1200.

Use the class time to study.

If you want to blow the science sections out of the water you need more than kaplan.

Also, kaplan's pat material will make you mess your pants on the real thing.

I took the Kaplan course a couple years ago and it was a total waste! Kaplan is all about $, doesn't give a **** about how you score. My instructor was horrible, came in late unprepare for the lectures and he didn't know how to teach the PAT section, QR was rusty because he was pre-med WT* . If you have too much extra pocket money and don't know where to spend, give it to charity. Just watch Chad's video, and get the kaplan blue book from a bookstore. Don't even worry about the kaplan lecture notes, it's useless. PM me if you have more question, good luck!
