Hey Guys,
I recently started my kaplan class for the MCATS. I just got back the results from my diagnostic exam and they suck big time. Well, to be honest I hardly studied before this time. But according to them I would get a 15 on my MCAT. Is that bad, good, or I have no hope for the future? Everyone else in my class seemed to do okay though. But the thing with me is I didn't finish my physics premed requirement. I'm taking Physics 2 this semester, so I hardly knew any of the physics stuff. I thought i should have done well in bio, but according to them general chem is my strong point, which i laughed at because I took that somewhere in freshman year and hardly liked it. Anyway, I would also like to know if anyone's had similar experiences with Diagnostic tests. thanks bye.

I scored an 18 on my diagnostic.

test 1 = 28
test 2 = 28
test 3 = 27
test 4 = 26
test 5 = 28
real MCAT = 25

It will come up. And don't think you will get the same scores on the MCAT, they will vary. Just study and do your best.

Kaplan beats down the diagnostic scores, so that they look like miracle makers, when you take the real MCAT. They want people to say, "WOW!!, I WENT FROM A 18 IN FEBRUARY TO A 28 ON THE REAL THING...THIS IS THE BEST $1200 I HAVE EVER SPENT"

The other motive behind beating down the scores is to scare you, thus motivating you. I am not a huge fan of Kaplan mainly because of my learning style. If you need the Kaplan instructors...fine. If not, save your money and buy the books.

Don't be discouraged. I took the Kaplan class and my acutal MCAT score went up 10 points. I too, did not have the second half of physics and had to rely on my gen chem knowledge to get an 8 on that section. Keep plugging away and if you don't like a lecturer, use the video tapes...the other key to increasing your score is take the practice tests that kaplan will provide you from AAMC. They are also a good reality check from the slightly longer and more difficult Kaplan practice tests. You'll get as many points from time managment as you will from studying content.

Good Luck

As an employee of Kaplan and MCAT test taker, I must admit that the diagnostics are really hard, like reddoglover said. Kaplan wants to motivate people to study. When I took the course over the summer, I hadn't had Organic II or Gen Chem II so I was behind a little. In areas you feel weak or haven't had in class watch the foundation review videos that they offer. Here's my rundown:

Diagnostic: 18
Test 1: 25
Test 2: 23
Test 3: 26
Test 4: 28
Test 5: 29
MCAT: 30

Dedicate some time and do well!
