Kaplan Lecture Notes vs Kaplan MedEssentials

I found myself a copy of Kaplan MedEssentials and was wondering if anyone knew how this compared to the famous Kaplan Lecture Notes? Also does anyone think these resources are even useful anymore?

The same friend also just gave me his series of Kaplan Review Books http://www.amazon.com/KAPLAN-USMLE-Step-Review-Volumes/dp/B00275PBLE

Again I haven't really heard much input about whether of these resources have been helpful.
