Step I Kaplan Lecture Notes

Hello, I was wondering whether the kaplan lecture notes (not the organ system books) are good enough to use as a stand alone step I review without taking the class. The books state that they are not to be used without attending the lectures, but what have your experiences been?

Also, do you know if there has been many changes between the 2003 lecture notes and the 2004 notes?
