I am having trouble figuring out #71 in the natural sciences section of the full length in the kaplan blue book. I'm really confused. Can somebody help me out? i know it might be hard to explain online. I know that the vertical lines go into the page and the horizontal lines come out of the page but that doesnt help me understand the problem. Thanks guys. 🙂

I don't have the blue book. If you draw the picture using All Programs-> Accessories->Paint and then upload the picture to this forum I'll be able to help.

you have to convert one from to another. how i do this problem is look at figure out the r/s conformation about the two bonds and then translate that to the r/s conformation of the matching fischer projection. the r should match with the r, and the s with the s for it to be correct. i dont know if this makes any sense, but it certanily seems like it would take over a minute to do, so i would skip this and come back to it at the end of the test.
