Hi, can anyone please tell me if the product on the question #6 is drawn wrong or not? If the answer choice is C, then isn't it supposed to be an -OH group since LiAlH4 reduces ester to primary alcohol? Thanksss.........

Can anyone help me? I'm not getting it. and the question below too, please????

OC subject test 4, #13.. I tried to choose the one with the electron withdrawing group. I elimited it down to B & E. I thought since -OH is an electron donating group, it would be o/p direct. And choosing that answer would make it more basic? why is the answer E instead of B.

For the first one....on the ochem sub. 5 test. I think you are right about that being a primary alcohol. I tried looking everywhere and still couldn't figured it out. Even doing the mechanism. LAH turns carboxylic or ester into primary alcohol.

For the second one. I look it this way...acidic is the ease of donating a proton right? So the NO2 group being closer to the -OH will push away the H...making the H a more acidic...more readily removes itself. Think of carboxylic acid....the H from the -OH is more acidic than the H from the beta cabon. Also if are concerned about meta and o/p.....remember that basicity and acidity deals with stability. So when the H takes off..you need something to stablize the negative charge on that Oxygen. NO2 will do the job..but it does a better job closer to the proton...pushing it away faster than @ the meta position. The answer solution tells you why...electron density. Hope that helps.

Does anyone know how these subject tests compare to the real thing? I haven't been doing too well on the Orgo ones. The questions seem kind of tricky.

it'll be the monday after the blackout dates. The problem is, I've been catching a fever that's been like a week already, so when I get home from work. I got too exhausted to even study🙁. Are you doing problems right now? or still learning the materials?

Mostly problems. The "kaplan method" is to do nothing but practice tests for the last month. I don't think I have the stamina for one a day, but I try to take a test every other day and on days I'm not taking a test I review weak points and do Destroyer. Hopefully all this work will pay off.

how long have u been studying? Wow, I wish I knew earlier about that method. Are you doing good on the practice tests though?

lol. I don't know if the method works, just sharing it.

I've been scoring average on the Kaplan tests on all sections except QR & PAT. Maybe because I haven't paid attention to them at all. I think the most studying I did for QR was when I looked up the formula for volume of a cylinder. 🙄

Haha, same here. I haven't been doing a lot of QR. Did you get Crack the PAT? If so, do you think it's worth it? I'm just hoping for an average score, I'll be happy with a 19. If not, I'll retake. Is this going to be your first time?

Crack PAT is good, but there are a couple errors in the questions. Some questions are crazy hard, but it's good practice.

how long have you been studying for this test rose? I think you're ready, don't sweat it too much, lolz.
