Are we supposed to assume no cubes down the arrow I've drawn? Also, I thought cubes won't be connected by their edges... 🙁

Just starting out PAT practice and came across this from Kaplan

Yes, there are no cubes down that arrow.
Cubes cannot be connected by their edges. In the pic, the tower to the far back left isn't connected by an edge to another tower- the tower to the right of it is connected to it, which is connected to the tower in front of it, thus connecting the far left to the center tower of 4, but everything is still connected by a face.

Aren't the shaded cubes connected by their edges if we assume no cubes down the arrow?

Lol... ok yeah.
The front shaded is for sure, but since you can see all the sides it shouldn't be too hard
The back shaded isn't though. Although there is no tower down the arrow, it's connected to the tower to the right of it. It's still connected by 3 faces to that middle/back tower.

Oh okay I'm now seeing how the back shaded tower is connected to the rest by faces! Thanks

I tried my best to do it lol but yes they're connected like that! So I guess the front-most column is just an exception to the rule. Sorry.

Haha yes I was confused after reading an older post here: Cube Counting Sorcery

Hopefully this is just a bad example and doesn't trip me up on the exam! Thanks!!

You shouldn't encounter a question like this on the real DAT - the front tower is only connected by its vertices, which isn't within the parameters of cube counting.
