Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if any of you do the Kaplan Qbank challenge on kaplan's website. It consists of 15 questions but no explanations or breakdown, just a percent of what you got right. So I was wondering if you have questions from the challenge -it changes every week- could we put them up here and discuss? The reason for this is I have a question I am stumped on:

In the process of albumin synthesis, carbohydrate chains that will eventually be transferred to the protein component of albumin are synthesized on what substrate molecules?
a. Arachidonic Acid
b. Ceramide
c. Dermatan Sulfate
e. Dolichol
f. Hyaluronic Acid

not sure where to even start on this one?

Here are my thoughts:

Arachidonic Acid -> Leukotrienes, prostaglandins, thromboxanes
ceramides -> lipids in the membrane bilayer
dermatan sulfate -> MPS (mitral valve prolapse accumulation)
Dolichol -> N-glycosylation in ER
Hyaluronic Acid -> GAG, component of Extracellular matrix

not sure which one of these has anything to do with albumin?

oh wait...ok, so I guess it's dolichol cos the question is referring to post-translational modification? Yeah, I think you're right. Thanks! That was quick!
