So, I'm on chapter 17 of these biochemistry videos with Turco and something occurred to me (aside from you know, ending it all....). Has anyone maybe made a list of the one or two high yield enzymes he's mentioned per pathway. I really wish I had thought to do this when I STARTED watching the videos...it seems like such a good thing to do.

Did anyone on here do this?

He has a "Turco's Top Ten" list. I had it written down in my Kaplan BC book, but have sold that so unfortunately I can't retrieve it for you. I know #1 was G6PD

OOOOH maybe he does it at the end, and I just haven't gotten there yet.

So, since I'm guessing you used Kaplan, was it helpful?

G6PD
HMG CoA Reductase
DHFR (Dihydropholate Red.)
UDP-Glucuronytransferase
Vit K gamma Carboxylase
Homocysteine methyltransferase
Methyl malonyl CoA Mutase
Hexosiminidase A
HGPRT
Branched chain ketoacid dehydrog.

aren't these all mentioned in First Aid? I just finished Biochem and I think I've seen thema all in First Aid.

Thanks for the list.
These are all in FA but I guess its good to know which ones are the most important to know

I finished the Bchem metabolism/molecular bio section in Kaplan and FA. Whenever they said "know this enzyme for the boards" I highlighted it in my FA. Here's my list. As you can see it's pretty much every enzyme in the section. meh.

  • dihydrofolate reductase
  • xanthine oxidase
  • HGPRT
  • DNA polymerase III
  • RNA polymerase III
  • Methylmalonyl coA mutase
  • homocysteine methyltransferase
  • alcohol dehydrogenase
  • acetalaldehyde dehydrogenase
  • ALL the rate determining enzymes in the metabolic processes
  • propinoyl coa carboxylase
  • hexokinase/glucokinase
  • PFK-1
  • Pyruvate kinase
  • PDH
  • isocitrate DH
  • alpha KG DH
  • PEP carbocylase
  • G6PH
  • NAPDH oxidase
  • fructokinase
  • Aldolase B
  • galactokinase
  • uridyl transferase
  • CPT-1
  • orthithine transcarbamoylase
  • catacholamine synthesis enzymes
  • Phenylalanine hydroxylase
  • homogentisic acid hydroxylase
  • glycogene phosphorylase
  • all the enzymes in glycogen storage disease
  • beta glucocerebrosidase
  • sphingomyelinase
  • hexosaminidase A
  • malic enzyme (not in FA)
  • acyl coa dehydrogenase
  • hmg coa reductase
  • know the heme degradation/bilirubin synthesis pathyway
  • UDP glucuronyl transferase

Maybe CPP-II for pyrimidine synth, and CPP-I for initiating urea cycle? Personally, I'm just trying to learn FA pg 95, and I'll sacrifice all other questions to the capricious biochem gods.
