I was wondering whether anyone has tried the Kaplan USMLE Step 2 CK books? These are the lecture note series, which actually have been newly revised for 2004. Are these good for the USMLE Step 2 or excellent for shelf exams? I know that the Kaplan lecture notes for USMLE Step 1 were excellent especially when used with the videos, since they are lecture notes NOT review books. Has anyone here done the intense prep/live prep/videos for USMLE Step 2? I would rather do the notes than get Blueprints/Pretest/etc. I am aiming for 240+. May not be attainable, but better to aim high than sink low. Any advice on study schedules/books/etc. greatly accepted. Hey ScottL, feel free to contribute! 😕

I have the Step II books...and like Step I they are really detailed and intensive....I will use them with the videos....I never though of that...

Excellent....

Any thoughts on whether or not I should choose USMLEworld or Q Bank? Any advice from anyone? I plan to take Step 2 in August.

from what i've read...similar questions but the organization and flow is not as good as qbank....
up to you whether you want to spend the extra 70 bucks.

Ok, since I?ve used both let me give you some helpful info

- Qbank is about $150 for 1 month 1250q's, $75 for usmleworld 2000 questions

The most important thing is that usmleworld questions are much better and much more up to date than Kaplan. Also usmleworld allows you to reset the test after you have finished them all. I did this the first time around and got 53%. I?m doing this for the second time and I?m averaging 75%. In case your curious, I just took the NBME Self assessment yesterday and got a 520 mean=500 std=100

I also started Kaplan and I?m halfway through it. I?m averaging 67-70%. Kaplan seems to be a little bit more straightforward. I think Kaplan has gotten too big and just ignored their step 2 questions.

Well, I hope this helps, if you only have time for one. Go for usmleworld, good luck...let me know if have any other questions..

later
