I am sure I already know the answer to this before writing but does anyone think Kaplan is worth it with USMLEworld as an option? I'm halfway through 3rd year, have a month of surgery left, then medicine and OB/GYN to finish. If I don't jump on this 12 month kap deal our school is offered, my plan was to start cranking a question book after medicine and MKSAP sometime mid-summer perhaps.

Step 1 - 241
Anticipated specialty - Med-Peds
Fellowship possibilities - Pulmonary, ID, something else?

just my personal opinion...Kaplan questions are not nearly as difficult (good) as USMLE world for Step 2...for Step 1 they rule

i would focus on USMLE world...but if you really want to add a bit more to your studying i guess you could do it through Kaplan....just a thought

Focus all of your efforts on completing the USMLEworld questions. The only time I looked at Kaplan for CK was for the clinical scenarios in the Surgery lecture notes and the Psych notes.

I just took Step 2 yesterday...any time I came across a "hard" question that I feel like I knew...it was referencing the USMLE World question (or concept) I had come across (and I'd looked over most of QBank) not Kaplan

so that's just one person's perspective...but I am really glad I did USMLEworld in hindsight now

I received a set of the kaplan step 2 CK lecture books and access to the videos from a friend who enrolled last summer, as a US med student is there any use in using these resources or would a book like FA or secrets plus usmleworld be fine?? Need to do well on this test for residency apps, and haven't heard much about the kaplan step 2 books, as I know of many that used kaplan step 1 books.

I recently won the raffle for free Kaplan Step II Qbank.

I wanted to see if anybody had used ONLY Kaplan for Step II (i.e. did NOT do USMLEWorld) and performed well on Step II? Basically, I'm trying to see if I can wing it (270+) without having to buy USMLEWorld.

no...but was >250 with ONLY USMLE World...honestly

hated First Aid and hated Kaplan QBank (read...didnt use them after quickly looking at them), didnt use Crush, Secrets, or Boards and Wards

oh and p.s. if you want to "wing it" with a >270...then I cant promise either source will do that...gettin that score is a rarity and is not "winging it"...it takes more than study resources, it takes genius I do believe

Seconded for >250 with just USMLE World. Initially I tried a mix of First Aid and UW, but it quickly became apparent that UW was where the real money is, especially in hashing through all the answers in detail.

its just that i've seen a few people in the Step II scores thread, with >270 (and one with a 281). obviously i haven't taken the test myself, but it sounds like UW will be necessary for a good score.

thanks fella's
