kcom or kcumb?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was accepted to both schools. I choose KCOM because they seemed to have a much greater commitment to making their students as competitive as they could. When I interviewed at KCUMB they didn't even have wireless internet on their campus and had no future plans to do so (this may have changed). It was that kind of attitude that turned me off to them since it shows a lack of desire to give students every resource available to them. I don't know how I would survive without online powerpoint presentations and being able to download lectures in a quiet study room instead of having to go to class when I wasn't in the mood. The professors are all really good at posting their lectures well in advance so you can come to class really well prepared if you choose. I also like the fact that KCOM has some excellent, somewhat diverse, and well established rotations. Oh yeah and one more thing.....we are KCOM, founding school of osteopathic medicine, enough said.

Any thoughts? i saw pro's/con's to both schools...thanks!🙂

KCOM is, indeed, a very good school.

I ultimately chose KCUMB over KCOM because of the location in a larger city and because I was just impressed with the students and faculty that I met. I also am pleased with the rotations that KCUMB offers, which are in some great hospitals and medical centers throughout the country. KCUMB, like KCOM, also has an impressive matchlist.

I chose KCUMB because I felt that KCUMB shared KCOM's strengths, but was in a larger city. I also was really impressed with the students and faculty that I interacted with. They seemed to be really "on the ball", so to speak.

Ultimately, if you are accepted to both, you can't go wrong either way. Both are fine schools.

Just interviewed at kcumb...they have wireless now, even have it in all rooms in student housing. I wouldn't make a decision based solely upon wireless/wired, but that's just me.

I just found out yesterday that I got accepted to both as well. I was impressed by how KCOM seems to care about their students (admissions called me the same day that the adcom met to let me know), but I was a little more impressed with the facilities and the curriculum at KCUMB.

Both on the same day? Congrats! 👍

I think a lot of people end up deciding between Kirksville and Kansas City. While I was in Kirksville, one of my interviewers told me why I should choose KCOM over KCUMB, and while I was at Kansas City, my interviewer was trying to persuade me vice versa.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most idiotic responses I've ever seen on SDN. You have NO idea what you're talking about.

1. KCUMB does have wireless internet.
2. KCUMB not only has the vast majority of lectures available on powerpoint presentation (on occasion, SOME visiting professors forget to do so), but all lectures are recorded on DVD (available at the school library) and now are also available as dictated html presentations (with audio) on the web.
3. KCUMB adjusts and tweaks the curriculum every single SEMESTER not just following each year (based upon recommendations and concerns made by students).
4. We have a brand new building solely devoted to clinical training.

As for the rest...
Not that I have anything against Kirksville, but there's nothing to do there (this coming not only from their professors that guest lecture to us every now and then, but also from their graduates who tell me the highlight of their weekend is visiting walmart). Kansas City isn't necessarily the most glamorous of places, but there are certainly a lot more things to do during the weekend than in Kirksville.
Being in Kansas City also allows for KCUMB students (especially those involved with clubs) to participate in a number of service projects (namely Score1).

Calm down there buddy, the op just asked for thoughts on this matter. If you read my post I said things may have changed. No need to get hostile, I hope this isn't the prevailing attitude at your school. There might not be much to do here in Kirksville but we don't use that extra time insulting people who have had different experiences then ourselves.

I am a first year at KCUMB...correct they do post the lectures, but they are alos posted as voice overs...so you just hit play and the power point takes off just like in class (teachers explanation and everything). They just started this.
