I have gotten into both ATSU Osteopathic Medical Schools.

I really need some help as to which I want to send my $ 1,000 deposit to, as it is a lot of money.

I would love to go to school in Arizona, but I would much rather go to the medical school in Kirksville.

I welcome any and all pros or cons you good folks may have that can assist me in making this tough decision.

Happy Holidays Folks,

I went to the SOMA interview and was not very impressed with the school. The facilities looked great and I love the phoenix area but I did not like how you only spend one year in Arizona and then move to a CHC location. I know a lot of students choose SOMA for that reason so that they can return near their home. I personally like the classroom environment and I don't think I could do well second year when it's more independent type learning.

I withdrew my interview invite from KCOM so I can't comment too much about it. I have a friend who attends KCOM and he said that students from KCOM are very proud to be students there since it is the very first osteopathic school. I am sure many other SDNers can help you out on KCOM.

I think you've already decided really. But seriously you can't go wrong with KCOM, it's one of the best DO schools and has a 100 year legacy.

I was amazed at SOMA because of the different learning styles they incorporated into their curriculum. Its not all old school lectures. They have small group and they have PBL-like sessions. They have high-tech dummies that you can work with to develop clinical skills too. And your right about returning near home, they have a site in NY and I would love to come home. Pheonix does look amazing and if you like it there, you can go to a CHC there as well!

I have an interview at KCOM in January so I don't have any views on it yet.

I'll give it to you straight: if you want to go to school IN Arizona go to KCOM not SOMA. You will spend 1 year in AZ at SOMA but if you KCOM has 30+ spots for 3rd and 4th year in Mesa and it's the only rotation site that you are virtually guaranteed to match at if you want it due to sheer number of spots and lack of interest. The same cannot be said of SOMA, though I do believe one of their CHCs is in Tuscon.
