I had my interview with KCUMB and I loved everything except the location! What are others thoughts on the location/safety in the area? If I'm studying on campus till 11 or 12 every night I wouldn't feel comfortable walking to my car. I know security is available but an escort every night seems a bit much. Thoughts??
🙂

My husband attends KCUMB and he doesn't stay on campus late to study. He comes home and does all his studying. There's not really anything he needs (yet) late at night at school that he can't get online or in his books that he has. So, I know this doesn't really answer your question, but just know that you don't necessarily have to be on campus all night if you don't want to.

I have several friends that go there and as far as I know nothing has ever happened to anybody. They say that security just sits in the parkin lot after dark and makes sure students get to their cars ok.

I was worried about this too but one good thing is that parking is really close to the school. Also, one girl I talked to at my interview said that she asks the security guard to drop her off at her car. He doesn't mind at all and I'm sure he is glad to do it. It's actually in a better area than KU Med (University of Kansas), I looked there too. KU is so unsafe and you have to park really far away from the med school. The students (girls) even told me they moved away from there just to be safer but nobody said that to me at KCUMB. I know the community is really supportive of the school.

I wouldn't really consider KU Med to be in a bad area of town. I live just a few minutes away from there and it seems pretty nice to me. But I could be wrong!

Yeah, that's what I mean though. If you move out to Roeland Park or in Westport, near the plaza, it's okay. But I wouldn't consider it safe walking around late at night around KU or KCUMB (or most places for that matter) But I was just trying to reassure the OP that KCUMB is generally safe.

I also live in KC and plan to apply to KCUMB (my 1st choice). The first time I visited the school I kinda wondered about safety too. The way I think about it is if you're looking for trouble you will find it, if not GENERALLY you will be just fine (I realized there are exceptions). But the school is very welcoming and everyone seems very helpful. If you would like the added security of being walked to your car, I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem. Another thing to think about is you'll probably be studying with at least one other person and leaving campus together. Safety in numbers. 🙂

You know........ this was one of my worries coming here too, but once u get here u realize its not that bad. i dont see safety as a problem, although i won't lie to you, the neighborhood isnt the best. Walking back from the library shouldnt be a problem.......... jogging around the block after dusk, that could be a problem. But like everyone has said , security is sitting around campus and in the lots until the campus closes, so no worries. Ive never heard of anyone be mugged or attacked, so thats always good, i walk back to ct after dark all the time with no worries. Its not really as bad as some make it out to be as long as you dont stray too far from the campus.
