Ahhhh!!! How do I choose!
K...i have a series of questions:

I just got accepted to KCUMB and i have an interview for PCOM coming up. I only applied to these 2 DO schools b/c i got accepted to KCUMB so early...
does anyone have any advice about which school is better as far as education/reputation goes? I know neither school posts match lists (or so I've heard) but does anyone have inside information?
Are there better DO schools I should apply to?

Also, has anyone heard anything about the GA campus of PCOM? I live in 15 minutes away from the school, and it wouldn't suck to be able to stay in GA, but I'm worried about a school that doesn't even have 1 graduating class yet.

Last Question: How hard is it to be able to get a residency in the South (like in Georgia or thereabouts) with a DO degree vs. MD? I LOVE DO and can't imagine practicing medicine otherwise, but I also want to be able to have options once i'm out of school, and I'm worried that DO would limit those options.
Any advice?

As a 3rd yr from KCUMB I have to say that the school is excellent. The school has very positive objectives set out for itself. It is focused on building state of the art infrastructure for research and teaching. I believe that in a few years time KCUMB will be one of the top DO institutions in the country if it isn't already. I think it is.

50% of KCUMB students specialize.

do they specialize in do or md programs?

They said about 60-75% go into MD programs. Sounds good to me!

I was looking at a ranking of all the med schools in the U.S. (don't remember where, I think U.S. News and World Report). One of the categories ranked med schools based on percentage of students entering specialities vs. primary care. PCOM was ranked #1 of all the osteopathic schools with almost 70% of the students specializing. On the flip side, WVCOM had about 80% of their students entering primary care.

Both schools will provide you with a solid education. It comes down to other things like location (which is huge in my book), availability of scribe notes (trust me, you'll want these in med school), dual degree programs, and of course your gut feeling. If I were you, I'd definetly go to PCOM. But of course, I'm a little biased... 😉
