I am having to make a decision between these two schools. My main priority is to be able to stay in the same location all 4 years due to family and having quality rotations all in that location. My interests are in internal medicine/Peds and maybe GS/pediatric surgery. However, I'm an outdoorsy person and I'm in love with the beauty of Harrogate, TN and LMUDCOM's campus but I can't simple turn down a great curriculum and reputation in KCUMB. Please help!

Both schools send their students across the midwest for clinical rotations. You might have a better chance of staying in Missouri at KCUMB.

Sorry I should clarify, I'm actually from Texas and would like to stay in whatever city I end up going to school for the entire 4 years. Being able to go back to Texas for residency would also be a plus.

With a family and loving the outdoors i would suggest LMU.

Are you suggesting that Harrogate is more family friendly than Kansas City? I don't have kids but I have a wife and a dog.

With no kids it's probably not an issue. Everything I have heard is second hand though so I'll let those at LMU currently answer more directly.

From what you said, I think KCUMB would be a better choice for you. KCUMB is well known and respected in the region but also by the larger Midwest and Texas osteopathic (and larger) and allopathic medical communities so they offer you the best chance of breaking in to that system for residency should you decide to go that route. KCUMB also offers you a better opportunity for staying near to the same city for most of your 4 year medical education, though I believe the dual MBA students get priority with that?

Harrogate is beautiful no doubt, and while environment is important for the stress of school you are about to enter, it is not among the most important, so long as you are also comfortable in Kansas City. Good luck!

I'll be going to LMU(probably). One of the downsides is how you will most likely have to bounce around for rotations. KC sounds like a better fit for you. Both are incredible schools. Good luck.

Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm extremely fortunate. Good luck to you as well, wherever you are in the process.
