I know programs require BLS/ACLS (or PALS for triple boarders) for PGY1 and most incorporate it into their orientation. After the 2 years is up, do psychiatry residents have to keep their certification up? What about as psych attendings? I'm learning it now as part of my 4th year and was just curious. Perhaps it is program dependent? BLS seems like something every doctor should keep current but ACLS seems a little much for a psychiatrist.

I took the ACLS/BLS refresher courses just over a month ago. Had the ACLS course with a bunch of cardio. attendings, ICU nurses, and it was somewhat of a humbling experience with them 'showing off' . But it was a useful experience as I often assess EKGs myself at work. BLS was alot easier. As physicians, i think it's helpful to stay current with acls/bls certifications if your work is hospital based but i'm not sure attendings (in many medical fields) with private practices stay current with these certifications.
