did anyone hear this on NPR this morning.

Interesting research and probably some insight into why it can be helpful in certain pain syndromes.

This appears to be a blinded ketamine study for MDE. I wonder if this patient has attempted ECT, as the evidence for this is significant (although ECT has received tons of bad press).

Ketamine does have some encouraging anecdotal evidence for treating depression, and it seems to have a very quick onset of action. However, I don't believe they have followed patients for very long with this treatment, or determined whether they will need "topping up", and if so, how often.

I would suspect when this moves to a larger study, they're going to see shorter than expected duration of effect and a lot more side effects.
