step 1: 244/99, US IMG

i took the CS today. I was confident, showed empathy for pain, offered tissue, answered all their "hard" questions with a good response, good intro etc.

everything went well except for:

1) out of 12 cases, i completely forgot to ask family history on 5 of them. (my first 4 then i noticed i wasnt asking something lol) and the 11th one . (hopefully 3 that arent graded are 3 of those lol

2) one of my patients, i walked in and got off to a bad start. forgot her name, so i bent down to look at her sheet to see her name, and said "excuse me, i just had a muscle spasm in my back"... on her chief complaint i forgot to do some special tests for it, and i stuttered for the first and last time. Also, when i was typing up the note, i only had like 3 differentials, and 2 studies and i ran out of time 🙁 . I REALLY hope this patient is a non graded one.

3) for about 4-5 patients, i didnt do special tests, just overall basic tests For example (not my patient but just an example) if a patient had a cough, i listened and percussed, but didnt do tactile fremitus or egophany/pectorliqouy, etc.

If it was graded via letter grades, i would give myself passing with C, as i feel i got at least 70% of the questions/etc.

what do u guys think?? pass? fail? I'm sure all of my patients gave me 100% on personality/communication/etc.

I know u guys say "dont worry about it, it's done with nothing u do can change the result" but come on... that NEVER works haha

i dont want to 1) fail and let my 244/99 go to waste and not get an EM residency, 2) i dont want to go through it again 3) i dont want to pay another 1500 for it.

From others I have talked to that passed, I would say you're probably OK. I know a lot of people who felt like they really screwed up a lot of things and still ended up doing fine.

That being said, I took mine yesterday in Chicago, and I can tell you I will be stressing for the next 6-10 weeks till I get an email that hopefully says "Pass". I definitely missed a few things as well, and I know I screwed up on a couple of write ups. I did a few special tests, but not a lot, and hopefully the SP's liked me. I don't think I missed much in the way of questions, but I'm pretty sure I forgot to put a couple of things in the write up that the pts told me. i.e they said they had allergies, then I was in such a hurry on the write up that I put none, or they had an appendectomy and I put none. I think i only did this once or twice, but it still has me worried.

Here's to hoping we passed!
