My professor gave us some practice kidney problems to prep for our exam, and I am having the toughest time figuring them out! If anyone could help shed some light, I'd really appreciate it!

An individual has 20 liters of total body water; of this, 33 % is compartmentalized in the extracellular fluid and 67% is within the intracellular fluid. The osmolarity of the fluid in the body is 290 milliosmoles/liter. Hypothetically, consider this individual ate 10 grams of NaCl. Calculate the osmolarity (mOsm/L) of the body fluid after equilibrium. Calculate the volume (in liters) of the ECF after equilibrium in this individual. How many milliosmoles will be in the ECF after equilibrium? Calculate the volume of the ICF after equilibrium in this individual.

You will need to figure out how many mosmoles is 10 grams of nacl. nacl osmoles={(10g/molecular weight) x 0.9}

then (290 x 20=580) + nacle osmoles= total osmoles

total osmoles/20 liters= Osmolarity now

a simple MV=MV should give you the rest of the answers now that you have original volumes, original osmolarity and osmolarity now.

If youre taking Phys, start reading the osmolarity chapters, it will help a ton

Whoa! What class is this???
