Hey just wanted some advice.

Im an FMG from ross with 243/249 step1/step2 respectively, 3.5 gpa, with 3 good LORs and 1 still coming in, and in the process of getting research started up. And i applied on sept 1st for majority of the programs and sept 10-14 for the rest of them. I applied to 50 anesthesia programs and 25 prelims. However i only got 2 anesthesia interviews and 2 prelims. How come im getting so few interviews with such good board scores and having applied early???😡

FMG status.

As above, the FMG thingee isn't helping you despite good scores. In the SE, FMG's are limited to FM, Peds, IM, and Psych...and IM is an outside shot.

Despite what you read on this forum, there are still plenty of applicants that like the idea of Anesthesia and what the future holds for our specialty.

You should maybe consider being more proactive and attempt calling programs your interested in..especially at this point b/c interview invites are going out.

Goodluck,
CJ

Agree with above that being an FMG does hurt you because despite your excellent stats you are third in line when they look at your application (Allopathic --> Osteopathic --> FMG). Keep in mind that despite what you see on Student Doctor, it is still early in the process and you should not start really worrying for at least another month.

One thing that you could do is take a look at your list of schools and compare them to Ross' previous match lists and make sure you included the places previous Ross graduates matched. At least that will help you identify some more FMG-friendly Anesthesiology programs. If you want more reassurance, maybe also try contacting someone at Ross in Anesthesiology to get their input in what made previous applicants successful in an Anesthesiology match.

Hope this is helpful.
