Is kinesin just a different isoform of myosin? I was always taught this in undergrad, but according to my neuroscience class it is not.

Nope, Kinesin and myosin are actually different types of molecular motors. Myosin is an actin-associated molecular motor, and kinesin (and dynein) are microtubule-associated molecular motors. They may be similar structurally, but I don't think they're considered isoforms.
