Kaplan has two reactions with KMnO4

A) 1. KMnO4, OH-, heat / 2. H+

B) cold, dilute KMnO4

What is the mechanism of each of these reactions??

(p. 367 in Kaplan BB. 2007-2008)

ok my friend, the cold Kmno4 undergoes a dihydroxylation reaction
and hot kmno4 give u carboxylic acid.
