Does anybody know about any websites/email newsletters that we can utilize in order to gain basic knowledge of healthcare issues and keep abreast of recent news in healthcare as well?

I just want to be able to speak intelligently about things that may come up in an inteview--they are only a month or so away!!

Even basic websites about "What is an HMO, PPO, etc." are welcome!!

Thanks in advance!! 👍

I love this! Not only are there news articles, but you can take quizzes as well (Yes, I am a nerd) 👍

How about some more? Anyone?....Anyone?.....

I went to my public library and found some great books on the healthcare system, medical malpractice, medical ethics, and so on. I would much rather read a full book then read an article or two on a topic. But if you're short on time (interviews in two weeks or so), then the internet may be the way to go.

Oh I have been reading both articles and books. I have a book called "Medical Ethics" and it is way too boring and philosophic for me at this level, though.

I also went to W's and Kerry's websites to see what they are talking about in terms of healthcare. This may be a good interview question since it's an election year.

Both of them have the same objective: lower the cost of healthcare....now I'm just trying to think which one is more realistic in terms of implementation.

I'm voting for Kerry no matter what, but I'm thinking that his plan to switch everything over to electronics from paper is going to be very costly and difficult to put into effect....although if it is possible it will reduce costs and human errors.

What do y'all think?

This is a great book if you are interested more in learning about health care policies:

Health Care Policy: Issues and Trends. Jennie Jacobs. Kroenfeld, NY: Praeger Publishers, 2002.
This book offers a systematic review of major issues and trends in health care policy, including those related to physical health and disease trends, mental and behavioral health concerns, reorganizing the U.S. health system, and managed care and health care personnel. Kronenfeld addresses the problems, challenges, issues and trends in the policies that determine the role and future of health care in the United States.

The career center at my school sent out a list of "recommended reading" books to the pre-med students, so feel free to PM me if you want info on some other useful books.
I got the book that I posted the info on, and I haven't read the whole thing yet, but I've skimmed through it and read select parts, it seems very useful and informative.
