Hey...here is the dillema...

On one hand, I have gained admission into Saint Louis University's Medical Scholars' Program, which for all intensive purposes, guarentees me admssion into SLU Medical School in four years.
PRO:
1) Guarenteed
2) Decent, Private School

Cons:
1) Cost (around 300K over 8 years)
2) Location, kinda slum (also four hours from home)

Versus, University of Kansas
PRO:
1) Full ride for the first four years
2) Location, only 30 mins from home.

Cons:
1) Not guarenteed
2) Not as prestigious

What do you think? Which is a better track for one who knows that he definitely wants to do medicine (can't convince me otherwise)?

I'm kind of confused--why is it "not guaranteed", yet you know that you'll be getting a full ride? Is it that your parents will only pay for it if you go to KU?

Either way, I say rock chalk jayhawk go to KU.

I think he means that its not guaranteed that he'll get into Kansas medical school after going to KU undergrad, whereas with the medical scholars program at SLU, he will likely get into SLU Med.

I also put my vote in for KU, but that's just because I'm a big Jayhawk fan. 🙂

are you serious? go to kansas. as long as you take care of business as you should, you stand a great chance of being accepted to KU med as a kansas resident/KU undergrad. if that's where you ended up, you'd probably save 150k-200k over the 8-year duration as opposed to going to SLU. is SLU a better school than KU? probably. is is 200k better? f**k no. and like you said, its really close to home, which is an added bonus.

decision made.
