Hi all, so iam heading to CHLA for residency in June. Starting the nasty apartment hunt and just trying to get a better idea about the neighborhoods, specifically west hollywood, silverlake, and los feliz......any suggestions on a good place to live, walkable to coffee shops, restaurants, etc?...
Thanks in advance.

my best friend lives in los feliz. specifically at vermont and finley, GREAT area. seriously. ton's of hip fun restaurants and bars and walking distance to griffith park which is the best hike (and view) in LA. easy access to the 101 and the 5. 👍

That might be a bit spendy on a residents salary. Silverlake seems like an obvious choice, its close and has a lot of cafes/etc....You wouldnt need to use the freeway to get to work, huge plus. If i were doing my res there, i would probably live there.

I spent a summer doing research at CHLA. I lived in Santa Monica and it was typically a 40 minute commute in the morning and about an hour or so at like 5 or 6. The coast is about the only good part of LA (IMHO), so it was worth the time and traffic committment. Load up your IPod.

why is that?
B/c it is near the water. If you can afford it, beach living is pretty great. I lived in Los Feliz, West Hollywood, Burbank, and Hollwood. I liked Los Feliz and West Hollywood the best. Both Los Feliz and Silverlake areas that are great to live if you are young and single. They have great cafes, restaurants and bars. When I lived in Los Feliz 10 yrs ago, (yeah, I am an old hag! ) I used to go to this Japanese place that would let you bring in you own beer! Los Feliz was actually my favorite place to live. Freeways are pretty close too, if my memory serves. Good luck with your apartment hunting! West Hollywood is pretty cool too. Real close to bars and upscale cafes and shopping. Rents might be a bit higher there then in Los Feliz and Silverlake area though.
