i work in a clinical lab in a hospital. there are different labs mixed into one big lab. you have molecular biology section, flow cytometry section, chemistry and hematology. immunology is put with hematology. also microbiology has there own lab. in the molecular bio they do a lot of PCR, RT-PCR. they test for many things like chlamidyia, hiv, gohnorrea, evb, cmv, mSAR, um..everything really. in flow they test usually for cancers and HIV. what they are mostly testing for is to see if patients have gotten worse. for these tests mentioned they usually can use CSF, swabs, and blood. well, those are the most common in this lab. in micro you use all kinds of plates, but most that i saw were blood, and chocolate agar (boiled blood w/ some stuff to make it selective), they also use mackonkey (i don't think i spelled that right), and some broths. they use tissue samples, blood, csf...what else could i tell you?? well i think with some of the info ive given you could run a search engine for some of the terms. being in high school im sure you wont be required to know a lot. but it sure will help to be familiar with the terms. hope this helps.. 👍 and have fun!!! med techs are great!! 😀
