Lack of ketones in CF patients in DKA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If they don't make ketones, then they are not in DKA. You need three things to be in DKA
1) Diabetes
2) Ketones
3) Acidosis

For the most part, CF patients make enough insulin not to form ketones. When someone with CF has DKA you should screen them for insulin/GAD antibodies.
